USA Loses Bronze Metal Game at World Junior Championships

USA lost to the Russians 4-2 in the third place game in the 2008 World Junior Championships.  USA beat Russia 3-2 a week earlier in a first round game.

Russia jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the U.S. came back to score 2 before the contest was over.  Russia who has been in the gold metal game the last 3 years, won the bronze metal in 2008.  Alexei Cherepanov, Evgeni Kurbatov and Filatov scored in the first period to give Russia a 3-0 lead and scored another by Filatov early in the second period.

Rhett Rakhshani scored in the second and Jordan Schroeder scored in the third to get the U.S. their two goals and a fourth place finish.

Overall a disappointing finish for the United States who went undefeated in the opening round before losing to Canada in the semi-final 4-1 and Russia in the bronze metal game.
