Mats Sundin Trade Rumors – Should Fletcher Trade Sundin

January 23rd, 2008 | Posted by Wicked in NHL trade rumors

Mats Sundin Trade RumorsMats Sundin is probably the most valuable player that has the potential of being traded on or before the NHL Trade Deadline. Mats Sundin trade rumors continue to fly, and the Sundin trade rumors will probably increase in intensity now that Cliff Fletcher is General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Mats Sundin being traded would net a solid return for the Maple Leafs. They would probably receive talent in the form of draft picks, a young player or a combination of the draft picks and players. The only problem with trading Sundin is that he has a no-trade-clause and it could be difficult for Fletcher to convince him to waive the clause.

Sundin trade rumors will not stop until he is signed to a contract extension or he is traded. The potential trade partners in the Sundin trade rumor mill are any team with the chance of making the playoffs. If he doesn’t like the team, or the chances, Sundin can refuse to be traded and the Maple Leafs will be stuck with Sundin on a team that probably won’t make the playoffs. Or the Leafs can keep Sundin and blow off the trade rumors and push to make the playoffs. They are currently in 14th place, sitting 7 points out of the playoffs with 33 games remaining. They are certainly still in the race, but can they play consistently, get enough scoring and keep the puck out of the back of their net? I don’t think so, and that is what it will take to make the playoffs.

If he was signed to an extension wouldn’t it make him even bigger trade bait? Especially if the $$ was reasonable. I think he is a relative bargain now when you compare him to others. He is top notch, and I hate the Leafs so that is saying a lot.

Mats will never leave TO, he isnt one of those kind of players ! Sundin would never go to another team for a cup, he would rather fight like hell to get HIS Toronto Maple Leafs to a cup, then desert them!! He has character, and pride which alot of the players in the league today are missing!!!!!!!

I disagree, I think he would be willing to leave them to try for a Stanley Cup. But when the off-season comes he will return to Toronto with a nice contract.
