4 NHL Teams Headed to Europe for 2008-2009
January 26th, 2008 | Posted by Wicked in NHLThe NHL is very pleased with the Kings and Ducks games in London to begin the season, so they are going to send 4 teams overseas to begin the 2008-2009 season.
The Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins will be headed to Stockholm to play a pair of games against one another. The New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning will be headed to Prague, Czech Republic to play a pair of games to start the NHL Regular Season in 2008-2009.
There is one other game being played, and that is in Switzerland, titled the Victoria Cup, which will have the top European team playing the New York Rangers. The team is, Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Russian Super League. There is a little bit of controversy over this game, with the NHL Player’s Union saying they never okayed this exhibition game. Overall it seems players are excited to be making this trip and playing in front of International fans, and I am sire the Rangers will end up playing Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
