Is Rob Blake Really Hurt or are Kings Resting him for a Trade

February 3rd, 2008 | Posted by Wicked in NHL trade rumors

Rob Blake sat out the Kings game against the Devils last night saying that he has a slightly fractured ankle. They are saying the injury occurred back on January 15th and that Blake has just played through the pain. Now with less than a month to the NHL Trade Deadline, the Kings have decided to shelf Blake for up to 2 weeks, saying he will return when the road trip is over.

Rob Blake and Mats Sundin are the 2 most desirable players heading into the NHL Trade Deadline, and this move seems like a ploy at resting the aging Blake, so that he will be fresher for the playoffs. Meaning that he is going to a playoff team, and playing him over the next couple of weeks would mean that he would have a chance to injure himself further and decrease his trade value.

Make no mistakes if Rob Blake were on a playoff bound team he would probably be playing through a hurt ankle. I do hope the Kings get something solid in return for Blake. And there is a chance that if Blake plays next year, that he will come back as an unrestricted free agent to the Kings. Now Blake needs to waive his No-trade-clause and help out the Kings by being traded to a better team.
