Peter Forsberg Turns Down Red Wings Contract Offer

February 6th, 2008 | Posted by Wicked in NHL trade rumors

The Peter Forsberg sweepstakes has gotten a little smaller. Forsberg needs to be picked up by a team before the NHL Trade Deadline now knows he won’t be going to the Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators.

The Ottawa Senator’s GM said he flat out isn’t interested in Forsberg’s services. This is a smart move on their part. They already have plenty of firepower and I think it would mess up their team dynamic. Sure they are skidding now, but they will be fine when Heatley and Alfredsson return.

The Detroit Red Wings offered a contract to the Peter Forsberg, which Foppa turned down because he said he felt like he would be a traitor to the Avalanche if he went to play for the Wings. Gotta respect Forsberg for not going to the Wings. It must have been enticing, but he actually showed some loyalty which isn’t easily seen in sports today.

The Dallas Stars have claimed they flat out aren’t interested in Forsberg. They don’t think he will fit in well with the current team’s hockey style.

The teams that remain interested in signing Peter Forsberg before the NHL Trade Deadline: Flyers, Ducks, Sharks, Flames, Canadians, Avalanche, Canucks.
