Vanouver General Manager, Dave Nonis Fired
April 14th, 2008 | Posted by Wicked in Vancouver CanucksDave Nonis was fired as the General Manager of the Vancouver Canucks today. Nonis was the Canucks GM for 3 years, and failed to make the playoffs in 2 of the 3 years.
The one big move that Dave Nonis will be remembered for is the trade that sent Bertuzzi to Florida and brought Roberto Luongo to Vancouver. There is no known replacement at this time for the Canucks’ General Manager position. Canucks chairman Aquillini said this in a press conference discussing the firing of GM Dave Nonis:
“We want to thank Dave for the many contributions he has made helping to build our organization during his tenure. However, I think this important change in leadership is critical to the future of the team and the direction we need to take. It’s not acceptable to our fans or to us as owners that our team isn’t in the playoffs.”
