United States Loses to Team Canada 5-4 at World Hockey Championships
May 6th, 2008 | Posted by Wicked in CanadaIn a wild game between the United States and Team Canada at the 2008 World Hockey Championships, Team Canada came out on top of Team USA by a final score of 5-4. The U.S. trailed for most of the game, going down 3-0 and 4-2 before battling back to tie the game 4-4 in the 3rd period.
The scoring got started with Brent Burns scoring a goal for Team Canada to make the score 1-0. Then with 11 seconds left in the 1st period, Canada made it 2-0 when Dany Heatley scored, assisting were Nash and Getzlaf. The score after the 1st period was 2-0 Canada despite being outshot heavily by the U.S.
The 2nd period didn’t start much better for the U.S. as Jonathon Toews scored to make it 3-0. The U.S. finally got a break as Dustin Brown expertly setup Zach Parise to make it 3-1. Patrick O’Sullivan then scored for the U.S. to end the period with Canada on top 3-2.
The 3rd period saw Canada score first with a goal by Derek Roy to make it 4-2. The U.S. scored the next 2 goals, with one by Dustin Brown and the other by Jason Pominville to tie the game at 4. Dany Heatley scored his 2nd of the game with 47 seconds left to give Canada the 5-4 win. Both teams will be moving on to the next round.
