The Atlanta Thrashers stayed within their organization today when they hired their new head coach John Anderson.  Anderson was the Chicago Wolves’ head coach and had won 4 Calder Cup trophies.  The Chicago Wolves are the AHL farm club for the Thrashers and will be familiar with a number of the players on the Thrashers next year.  Anderson is considered one of the premier hockey coaches that up until now was not coaching in the NHL.

Ilya Kovalchuk Suspended for 1 Game

Posted on January 24th, 2008 in Atlanta Thrashers by Wicked

Ilya Kovalchuk was suspended yesterday for his hit from behind on the Rangers Michael Rozsival.  Ilya Kovalchuk nailed Rozsival from behind and received a 5 minute major for boarding and a game misconduct.

The hit wasn’t malicious in my opinion, and Kovalchuk claims he wasn’t trying to hurt Rozsival.  Kovalchuk will serve his suspension during tonight’s game.  He will be playing in the All Star Game in Atlanta on Sunday.  You can see the check by Kovalchuk here.
