Peter Forsberg Will Probably Return to the NHL this Season

Posted on August 30th, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

Peter Forsberg is hanging out in Sweden during the off-season, but he is reportedly planning to come back to the NHL for the upcoming season.  Most people tend to think that Forsberg will return to the Avalanche, but I wouldn’t count out teams like the Flyers or even the Rangers.  Peter Forsberg’s return to the NHL last season was cut short by injuries and a short playoff run with Colorado, but during his time he was on pace for over a 100 point season (had he played the entire season).  Check back for updates on the Peter Forsberg NHL return saga.

Joe Sakic will Return to Play Hockey for the Colorado Avalanche

Posted on August 27th, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

According to TSN, Joe Sakic has signed a 1 year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. Sakic was an unrestricted free agent, although he wouldn’t consider playing anywhere but for Colorado. Sakic has played his entire career with the Avalanche/Nordiques and has been the captain of the team for both of their Stanley Cup victories. Here is what Super Joe had to say about his return:

“Ultimately it came down to the fact that I still enjoy playing and competing,” said Sakic. “I’m comfortable with my conditioning and my overall health. I’m ready for the start of camp and am looking forward to the upcoming season.”

Tony Granato Re-Hired as Colorado Avalanche Head Coach

Posted on May 22nd, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

Tony Granato was demoted from his Head Coaching position 4 years ago by the Avalanche.  Today, Tony Granato was re-hired as the Colorado Avalanche’s head coach.  Joel Quenneville was fired after getting beat up in the 2nd round by the Red Wings.  The Avalanche decided that they had played enough of Quenneville’s brand of hockey and were interested in returning to what Granato has to offer.

Granato has been an Assistant Coach for the last 4 years with the Avs, however he did achieve some success with the Avalanche as their Head Coach.  With some more experience under his belt I think Granato should be able to implement a strong system for his players to follow.  The next question for the Avalanche comes in the form of what kind of team are they going to field next year.  Their stars are getting older and more brittle, and their captain Joe Sakic is an unrestricted free agent.  Stay tuned in the coming months for any new developments with the Avs.

Peter Forsberg’s Groin Injury Worse than Being Reported?

Posted on March 14th, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

Peter Forsberg’s injured groin has now kept him out for 3 straight games, and there is still no timetable set for his return to the ice.  It makes me wonder if the Avalanche are hiding the severity of Forsberg’s injury.

Groin injuries are typically some of the most uncertain injuries in terms of healing time.  Forsberg is clearly still hurting pretty bad or else he would at least be working out.

Other Avalanche injuries include Ryan Smyth (may return this weekend), Adam Foote and Ruslan Salei.  The Avs are still desperately fighting for a playoff spot.

Peter Forsberg out Against Atlanta Tonight w/ Groin Injury

Posted on March 11th, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

Peter Forsberg will miss his second consecutive game for the Colorado Avalanche tonight when the Avalanche play the Atlanta Thrashers. Peter Forsberg’s injured groin is apparently not healed enough to make an appearance tonight. Avalanche fans should be a little scared, because groin injuries are one of the most uncertain injuries in terms of a return timetable.  They need a lot of rest and even one step can re-aggravate a groin injury. Out of their three big pickups at the deadline, all 3 have already been injured and missed games. Adam Foote has missed the last 2 games with a hurt hip, Salei will miss the game tonight with a bruised orbital bone and Forsberg will be missing his 2nd game with a groin injury. All of this and the Avalanche are still fighting for a playoff spot.

Peter Forsberg Suffers Groin Injury, Out of Today’s Game

Posted on March 9th, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

Peter Forsberg has already sustained an injury in his first week back to the NHL.  Forsberg injured his groin last game against the Dallas Stars on Saturday, and Forsberg was forced out of the game today against Dallas.   Forsberg is listed as Day to day with the injured groin, but with a groin injury, you never know, Forsberg could miss considerable time since he isn’t in the best shape right now.

The Avalanche lost the game against Dallas today without the hurt Forsberg 3-0, snapping a 6 game winning streak.  The Avs were outshot by Dallas 26-19 and Brad Richards scored his 1st goal since being traded to Dallas from the Lightning.

OFFICIAL: Peter Forsberg will Play Against the Canucks Tonight

Posted on March 4th, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

Peter Forsberg will make his season debut for the Colorado Avalanche tonight against the Vancouver Canucks.  Peter Forsberg has been rehabbing an injured foot and ankle for the majority of the season.  Forsberg was signed the just before the trade deadline by the Colorado Avalanche, however, in his previous stint with the Avs, Forsberg won 2 Cups in 9 seasons.

Peter Forsberg will play on a line with Milan Hejduk and Joe Sakic.

Ryan Smyth and Marek Svatos Injury Update

Posted on March 4th, 2008 in Colorado Avalanche by Wicked

Bad news was delivered to Colorado Avalanche players and fans today when the results from tests on injured players Ryan Smyth and Marek Svatos were released.  Ryan Smyth will be out indefinitely with a concussion and a minor separated shoulder.  The news on Smyth could have been worse, if it had been a dislocated shoulder, Smyth would be out for the rest of the season.

Marek Svatos wasn’t so lucky.  Svatos, the  Avalanche forward will miss the rest of the season and require surgery to repair a torn ACL.  Both players were hurt on Saturday in a game against the LA Kings.

In other news, Forsberg is a 50/50 chance of returning tonight for the Avs against the Canucks.  They will make a decision after the morning skate.
